Lens Care & Safety

Contact lenses sit directly on the surface of the eye and must be fitted, handled, worn, cleaned, and replaced correctly. Improper use may cause irritation, infection, corneal injury, or vision loss.

This guide provides general safety information only. It is not medical advice and does not replace the instructions provided by a qualified eye care professional or the labeling supplied with the product.

1. Before purchasing or wearing contact lenses

Obtain an eye examination and professional contact lens fitting before purchasing or wearing contact lenses.

In the United States, all contact lenses—including decorative, cosmetic, and non-corrective colored contact lenses—require a valid prescription. Use only the lens brand and specifications prescribed and fitted for your eyes, including the correct power, base curve, diameter, and replacement schedule.

Never purchase or wear contact lenses prescribed for another person, and never share contact lenses with anyone.

Always read and follow the product labeling and your eye care professional’s instructions. If those instructions differ from this general guide, follow the instructions specific to your lenses and your eye health.

2. Check the product before use

Before opening or wearing a lens:

• Check the expiration date and do not use an expired product.

• Make sure the individual package is sealed and undamaged.

• Do not use a lens if the package is open, leaking, punctured, swollen, or otherwise damaged.

• Do not use a lens that appears torn, dried out, discolored, deformed, or contaminated.

• Confirm that the lens specifications shown on the package match the specifications intended for you.

If a product arrives damaged, incorrectly labeled, or with a compromised seal, do not use it. Retain the product and packaging and contact EYLUMI for assistance.

3. Wash and dry your hands

Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and clean water before touching contact lenses, your eyes, or a lens case.

Dry your hands completely using a clean, lint-free towel. Avoid handling lenses when your hands have lotion, oil, cream, cosmetics, or other residue on them.

Handle lenses gently with your fingertips. Avoid using fingernails or sharp objects that could tear or damage the lens.

4. Inserting and removing lenses

Follow the insertion and removal method demonstrated by your eye care professional.

Before inserting a lens:

• Confirm that the lens is clean, undamaged, and correctly oriented.

• Do not insert a lens into an eye that is red, painful, swollen, irritated, or producing unusual discharge.

• Apply contact lenses before applying makeup.

When removing lenses:

• Wash and completely dry your hands first.

• Remove lenses before removing makeup.

• Do not continue wearing a lens that feels uncomfortable, displaced, damaged, or contaminated.

If discomfort continues after removing, cleaning, and reinserting a reusable lens, remove it again and do not continue wearing it. Contact an eye care professional if the discomfort persists.

5. Wearing time and replacement schedule

Follow the wearing time and replacement schedule stated on the product labeling and recommended by your eye care professional.

• Do not wear lenses longer than recommended.

• Do not extend a lens beyond its stated replacement period, even if it has been worn only occasionally.

• Daily disposable lenses are intended for one-time use and must be discarded after removal.

• Reusable lenses must be properly cleaned, disinfected, and stored after each use.

• Do not sleep or nap while wearing contact lenses unless the specific lenses are approved for overnight wear and your eye care professional has expressly instructed you to do so.

• Keep an up-to-date pair of glasses available so that you can remove your lenses when necessary.

Never wear a damaged, dried-out, expired, or previously discarded lens.

6. Keep lenses away from water

Water can contain microorganisms that may cause serious eye infections. Contact lenses and lens cases must not come into contact with:

• Tap water;

• Bottled or distilled water;

• Shower water;

• Swimming pool or hot tub water;

• Lake, river, or ocean water; or

• Saliva.

Remove contact lenses before showering, bathing, swimming, or using a hot tub. Do not rinse or store lenses or lens cases in water, and never use saliva to wet or clean a lens.

If water touches your lenses, remove them as soon as possible. Discard daily disposable lenses. Reusable lenses should be discarded or fully cleaned and disinfected according to the product instructions and your eye care professional’s guidance before they are worn again.

7. Cleaning and disinfecting reusable lenses

Use only fresh, unexpired contact lens solution that is compatible with your lenses and recommended by your eye care professional.

For reusable lenses:

• Rub, rinse, clean, and disinfect the lenses as directed each time they are removed.

• Use fresh solution every time the lenses are stored.

• Never reuse old solution or add fresh solution to solution already in the case.

• Never use homemade saline, water, or saliva.

• Do not transfer contact lens solution into another container.

• Keep the solution bottle tip clean and avoid touching it to your fingers, lenses, eyes, or other surfaces.

• Close the bottle securely after use.

• Discard solution after the expiration date or the period stated on the bottle after opening.

Sterile saline solution and lubricating or rewetting drops do not disinfect contact lenses unless the product labeling expressly states otherwise.

Hydrogen peroxide lens-care systems must be used only with the special case supplied with the system and must be allowed to complete the full neutralization process. Never place unneutralized hydrogen peroxide solution directly into the eye.

8. Lens case care

If you use reusable lenses, correct care of the lens case is essential.

After each use:

1. Empty all used solution from the case.

2. Rub and rinse the case with fresh contact lens disinfecting solution—not water.

3. Leave the case open to air-dry upside down with the caps removed.

4. Store it in a clean, dry location.

Replace the lens case at least once every three months, or sooner if recommended by the case manufacturer or your eye care professional. Replace it immediately if it becomes cracked, damaged, dirty, or contaminated.

Do not share a lens case with another person.

9. Makeup, cosmetics, and personal-care products

Insert contact lenses before applying makeup and remove them before removing makeup.

Keep cosmetics, creams, oils, powders, aerosols, hair products, and other personal-care products away from the lenses and the inside of the lens case. If a lens becomes contaminated with a cosmetic or another substance, remove it immediately and follow the appropriate cleaning or disposal instructions.

Do not share contact lenses, lens cases, or eye cosmetics with another person.

10. When to stop wearing lenses

Remove your contact lenses immediately if you experience any of the following:

• Eye pain or persistent discomfort;

• Redness or swelling;

• Burning, itching, or unusual irritation;

• Increased sensitivity to light;

• Excessive tearing or unusual discharge;

• Blurred, reduced, or otherwise changed vision;

• A sensation that something is stuck in the eye; or

• Any other sudden or unexplained eye symptom.

Do not reinsert the lenses. Contact a qualified optometrist or ophthalmologist promptly for advice. Seek urgent medical attention for severe pain, sudden vision loss, significant injury, or rapidly worsening symptoms.

EYLUMI customer service cannot diagnose an eye condition or advise whether it is medically safe to continue wearing contact lenses.

11. Routine eye care

Attend regular eye examinations at the frequency recommended by your eye care professional, even if your lenses feel comfortable and your vision appears unchanged.

Contact lens fit, prescription requirements, and eye health may change over time. Stop using lenses that no longer fit comfortably or provide clear vision and consult an eye care professional before continuing.

12. Product concerns and support

If you receive an incorrect product or notice damaged packaging, an unusual appearance, a suspected defect, or missing product information, do not use the lens.

Contact EYLUMI and provide:

• Your order number;

• The product name and specifications;

• A description of the issue;

• Clear photographs of the lens packaging and shipping package; and

• The batch or lot number and expiration date, where visible.
